Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, on Sunday inaugurated the Iru Ekun Security Network at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Igboho also explained that his trip to Abuja on Saturday was part of efforts to advance arrangements aimed at making the security outfit more effective across the South West.
According to a statement from his media office, more than 20,000 volunteers have joined the initiative, which is intended to strengthen community security and combat crime in Yorubaland as well as parts of Kwara and Niger states.
The statement said the Oyo launch followed similar inaugurations in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun and Ondo states, adding that traditional rulers and community leaders in Yorubaland had been actively engaged in the process.
It also said the outfit had, since its formation, worked with the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to reduce abductions, killings and other security threats, particularly in the South West.
