The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has launched the Nigeria Police Force Vigilant App and the NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network to strengthen financial fraud reporting, public engagement and police communication nationwide.
The two technology-driven platforms were unveiled on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja, with representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), financial institutions, fintech companies, MTN Nigeria and other partners in attendance.
The NPF Vigilant App is a citizen-focused platform developed by the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial services sector. It allows users to promptly report suspected financial fraud, upload relevant evidence, track cases and receive feedback while supporting coordination with relevant institutions.
The NPF–MTN CUG Network, on the other hand, is designed to provide police personnel across the country with secure and affordable on-net communication. The initiative is expected to improve emergency coordination, communication and operational response across police commands and units.
Speaking at the launch, IGP Disu described the initiatives as a major step in the Force’s digital transformation drive, noting that the platforms would make the Nigeria Police Force more connected, responsive and effective.
He stressed that technology must be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with due regard for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, said the initiatives demonstrated the Force’s commitment to practical, technology-driven solutions that would improve service delivery and strengthen public engagement.
He urged Nigerians to download and responsibly use the NPF Vigilant App to report suspected financial fraud.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to innovation and strategic partnerships aimed at delivering more accessible, people-centered and effective policing services across the country.
