An Israeli tour guide accompanying Prophet Alo’s pilgrimage team had also disclosed that in 2023, the cleric was the first and only Nigerian cleric who was allowed to hold an open air crusade in Israel.
The site Prophet Alo just visited is associated with Gilgal, where, according to the biblical account, the Israelites camped after crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Joshua, who succeeded Moses, is said to have set up 12 stones representing the 12 tribes of Israel as a memorial to the crossing.
While the precise location of biblical Gilgal remains the subject of debate, the site visited by Prophet Olu-Alo was identified by the Israeli archaeologist Prof. Adam Zertal during archaeological surveys. Zertal’s team identified several sites in the Jordan Valley as possible Gilgal sites, while in 2009, his team discovered an ancient underground quarry that he associated with the biblical Gilgal.
The tour guide told the pilgrims that Prophet Olu-Alo was the first Nigerian to step on the historic site in about 3,300 years. The pilgrimage has also featured visits to Mount Nebo, the remains of Jericho, Golgotha where Jesus was nailed to the cross, sea of Galilee where Jesus walked on the river and other historic sites across Jordan.
