The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced activities for the 2027 general elections as the 38-day window for political parties to conduct their primaries opened today.
Political Parties now have exactly 38 days from today, April 23, to May 30, 2026 to hold primaries for presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State Houses of Assembly positions, including resolving any disputes.
Parties must submit their membership registers to INEC at least 21 days before their primaries, with the overall submission deadline being May 10, 2026.
INEC has also warned parties to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and internal democracy during the primary elections.
