The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition in a renewed effort to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the arrests followed operations conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes and forest guards, in Oke-Iya community following credible intelligence.
Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed three suspects—Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar—were first arrested over their alleged involvement in the recent attack on Idiya community, where five people were kidnapped.
Preliminary investigation reportedly revealed that two of the kidnapped victims had earlier escaped from captivity.
This development led detectives to track down and arrest two additional suspects, identified as Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, in connection with the incident.
Items recovered from the suspects include a locally fabricated revolver rifle modified to fire AK-47 ammunition, as well as eight rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the process.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against criminal groups across Kwara State.
