The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents, particularly women, to support President Bola Tinubu, Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She made the appeal on Saturday during an awareness walk organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) ahead of its 2026 National Women’s Conference, scheduled for October 26 to 28 at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The walk, led by the First Lady alongside the wife of the deputy governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, and other COWLSO members, commenced at Lagos House, Marina, and proceeded through Campus Square Stadium, Tinubu Square and Water House, Kakawa.
During the exercise, members engaged residents to promote awareness of the forthcoming conference and encourage women’s participation in the political and developmental affairs of the state.
As part of the programme, Sanwo-Olu and her entourage visited prominent women, including Angelica Yewande Oyediran, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu and Alhaja Bintu Tinubu, in recognition of their longstanding support for COWLSO’s programmes and ideals.
The women welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visits, pledging continued support for initiatives that promote women’s empowerment, participation and advancement.
The First Lady also used the engagements to canvass support for Tinubu, Hamzat and other APC candidates, urging the women to mobilise their networks and contribute to the political and socioeconomic development of Lagos State.
She expressed confidence in Oluremi Hamzat’s ability to sustain and build on COWLSO’s achievements, citing their close working relationship and her commitment to the organisation’s objectives.
Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the contributions of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to COWLSO, particularly her role in reviving and repositioning the organisation during her tenure as Lagos State First Lady.
She noted that the foundation laid by the former Lagos First Lady had helped establish COWLSO as a platform for women’s empowerment, advocacy and community development.
The awareness walk also featured visits to the National Museum and the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, highlighting the importance of preserving Lagos State’s cultural heritage and promoting unity and collective responsibility.
The 2026 COWLSO National Women’s Conference is expected to bring together women from different professional, social and economic backgrounds to discuss issues affecting women, explore opportunities for growth and strengthen partnerships for sustainable development.
The annual conference remains one of COWLSO’s flagship initiatives for promoting women’s leadership, empowerment and participation in governance and community development.
