The Lagos State Government has given traders operating under the Apongbon Bridge and on drainage setbacks in Lagos Island 48 hours to vacate their stalls.

The directive, which is part of the urban regeneration project, was announced by Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, during an inspection of the Savage/Elegbata-Bombata drainage channel.

Wahab decried the misuse of infrastructure, noting traders had converted drainage setbacks into stalls while  Livestock traders had also transformed spaces under the bridge into a ranch.

The Commissioner, who said the current situation could endanger lives by worsening the flood situation, warned of enforcement if compliance is not achieved within 48 hours.

He also sealed two construction sites obstructing drainage systems.
