The Nigeria Police newly launched Operation Kósàyè, recorded its first major breakthrough with the rescue of five kidnap victims , barely 24 hours after they were abducted along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway.
Kósàyè is a joint security offensive by the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands aimed at dismantling kidnapping syndicates and other violent criminal networks operating along the border communities of both states.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said combined police teams cleared forests and thick bushes along the Lagos-Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway up to Ajebandele, the boundary between Ogun and Ondo states, leading to the killing of four suspected kidnappers and the arrest of four others.
He also reassured residents that no Nigerian is currently being held captive by kidnappers in either Lagos or Ogun State stressing that speculations of kidnap in these regions were deliberately being spread by kidnappers.
Four suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the rescue operation, while another member of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds, four suspected kidnappers and 84 other criminal suspects were also arrested in separate operations along the Lagos/ Ogun corridor.
