Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening international trade, attracting responsible investments and creating a business environment that promotes job creation and sustainable economic growth.

Sanwo-Olu stated this in a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, at the 2026 European Business Chamber (EuroCham) Nigeria Awards Gala Dinner held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.

The governor described economic relations between Nigeria and Europe as an important driver of investment, enterprise development and employment, stressing the need for sustained collaboration between government and the private sector.

He cited discussions at the 10th Nigeria-EU Business Forum in Lagos, which highlighted more than €35 billion in annual trade and approximately €26 billion in European foreign direct investment in Nigeria, supporting over 130,000 direct jobs.

Sanwo-Olu said the benefits of international economic partnerships should extend beyond trade figures to include technology transfer, skills development, stronger local businesses and productive employment.

He added that his administration would continue investing in critical infrastructure, strengthening institutions, developing human capital and improving the ease of doing business to ensure foreign investments deliver tangible benefits to the local economy.

The governor assured European investors and business leaders of Lagos State’s readiness to support mutually beneficial partnerships that promote industrial development, expand market access and strengthen Nigeria’s participation in international value chains.

He also commended EuroCham Nigeria for providing a platform for Nigerian and European businesses to connect, explore investment opportunities and deepen economic cooperation.

Sanwo-Olu congratulated the award recipients for their contributions to enterprise development, job creation and investor confidence, reiterating Lagos State’s readiness to work with partners committed to shared economic prosperity.

At the event, Ambrose-Medebem received the Excellence in Trade and Investment Award from EuroCham Nigeria in recognition of her contributions to the sector.
