The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed several properties across the state following repeated violations involving the discharge of untreated sewage into public drains and surrounding environments.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Thursday, May 7, 2026, came after earlier warnings and abatement notices were ignored by affected property owners and managers.
Among the sealed locations is Pinnock Beach Estate in Osapa London, Lekki, where authorities said residents were found to be deliberately discharging untreated sewage into a canal using pumping machines. The agency said the practice was causing environmental pollution, foul odour, and posing serious risks to human health and aquatic life.
Another property at No. 28 Amodu Street in Itire, Surulere, was also sealed after complaints from residents were verified, revealing continuous discharge of raw sewage into adjoining compounds and public drainage channels, creating significant environmental and health hazards.
In addition, a property on Oladipo Dumoye Street within Mashy Hill Estate along Ado Road in Ajah, Eti-Osa, was sealed for releasing untreated sewage into public drains, resulting in blocked drainage systems, pollution, and increased health risks in the surrounding area.
Authorities also sealed Vintage Heights Estate on Ojulari Street in the Elegushi area of Lekki, Eti-Osa, over similar violations involving the discharge of raw sewage into the environment and public drainage infrastructure.
The Lagos State Government reiterated that proper wastewater management remains a legal requirement for all residents and property owners, stressing that environmental laws must be strictly adhered to.
It warned that any individual or organisation found guilty of improper sewage disposal or other environmental violations would face appropriate sanctions, including possible prosecution under existing regulations.
