The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a landlord and his associate in connection with the death of a tenant, identified simply as Olayeni, in the Oriyangi area of Ibadan.
The incident, which occurred last week, reportedly followed a heated argument over Olayeni’s inability to pay his rent. The tenant was said to have been struck during the dispute by the landlord’s associate. Despite emergency response efforts, he later died from the injuries sustained.
Confirming the development in a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, described the case as “a tragic event stemming from a disagreement between landlord and tenant.”
He said investigations are ongoing and assured that justice will be served, while calling for calm among residents of the community.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
