The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to developing a sustainable, accessible and technology-driven parking management system to improve mobility and ensure the efficient use of urban spaces across the state.
The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed this during a recent interview, emphasising the importance of technology, stakeholder collaboration, public compliance and private sector participation in achieving effective parking management.
Adelabu explained that innovation remained central to the authority’s strategy, noting that successful technology-driven parking solutions required accurate data, reliable systems and effective coordination among relevant government agencies.
She said LASPA was putting measures in place to improve service delivery and ensure a more organised parking system, including the introduction of verifiable QR-coded uniforms and identification cards for authorised parking agents and marshals.
According to her, the identification system, alongside other technological solutions, would help motorists distinguish legitimate parking personnel from unauthorised individuals and improve public confidence in the system.
The LASPA chief also called on private investors and businesses to partner with the government in expanding parking infrastructure and improving service delivery.
She noted that the government could not independently meet every infrastructure and public service need, making private sector investment essential to addressing demands in areas such as transportation, healthcare, education and childcare.
On the proposed on-street parking initiative, Adelabu acknowledged that parking activities were already taking place in some parts of Lagos but clarified that the programme had yet to be fully implemented across its intended scope.
She attributed the delay in its full rollout largely to the need to strengthen collaboration with private sector partners and ensure adequate training before expanding the initiative.
Adelabu further disclosed that the planned on-street parking arrangement would reserve one out of every 10 parking spaces for persons living with disabilities, underscoring the authority’s commitment to accessibility and inclusive urban planning.
She urged motorists, businesses, investors and other members of the public to support LASPA’s initiatives towards establishing an organised and sustainable parking management system.
The authority maintained that improved parking management would contribute to smoother mobility, more efficient use of public spaces and the development of a safer, more accessible and liveable Lagos.
