The Nigeria national football team have been drawn in Group L of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, alongside Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau.
The draw ceremony, which took place in Cairo, Egypt, set the stage for the qualification campaign for the tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
Group L opponents:
- Madagascar national football team
- Tanzania national football team
- Guinea-Bissau national football team
- Nigeria national football team
Elsewhere in the draw, several heavyweight clashes were confirmed:
- Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire will face regional rivals Ghana in Group C
- Morocco lead Group A
- Egypt headline Group B
- Senegal, Algeria, Cameroon, Tunisia, Mali, and South Africa all received competitive groups across the board
The qualification campaign is expected to begin on September 21, with matchdays spread across the continent.
On paper, Nigeria enter Group L as clear favourites, but matches against improving sides like Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau — who have both caused upsets in recent qualifying cycles — mean the Super Eagles will still need to remain consistent throughout the campaign.
With players such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman expected to lead the squad, expectations will be high for Nigeria to top the group and secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON.
