The Nigeria Revenue Service, in partnership with the Joint Revenue Board, has announced the introduction of a new Taxpayer Identification system meant to create a unified tax framework for all taxable individuals and entities across the country.
The agency disclosed this in a public notice shared on its official X platform on Monday, stating that the initiative is backed by Sections 6, 7 and 8 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025.
According to the statement, the law makes it mandatory for every taxable person in the country to obtain a Tax Identification number under the new framework.
The Nigeria Revenue Service explained that the reform is designed to strengthen tax administration processes, enhance transparency and improve service delivery across federal and sub-national tax systems.
The agency noted that the Tax ID would function as a unified identity for taxpayers nationwide, enabling easier identification and coordination within the tax system.
Officials said the move forms part of broader efforts to modernise tax administration and establish a more efficient structure for revenue collection and compliance.
