The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has begun rolling out self-service fuel pumps at selected NNPC Retail stations, allowing motorists to purchase and dispense petrol without assistance from station attendants.
The initiative is part of NNPC’s plan to deploy between 50 and 70 smart, self-service stations across Nigeria within the next six months.
Under the new system, motorists can select the amount of fuel they need, pay through the NRL Fuel App and use a digital code generated after payment to activate the pump.
NNPC Retail explained the process in a guide shared on its X handle on Friday.
To use the facility, motorists are required to download the NRL Fuel App, select “Fuel Purchase” and choose the preferred fuel type. They can then select a participating NNPC Retail station and enter the amount they wish to spend.
After payment is confirmed, the app generates a digital receipt containing an Order ID, Self-Service Code and QR code.
At the pump, the customer enters the eight-digit self-service code on the terminal and presses the hash key. Once validated, the nozzle can be lifted and the exact quantity paid for dispensed.
NNPC Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, said the initiative forms part of the company’s broader plan to transform conventional filling stations into energy and mobility hubs.
Speaking at the newly commissioned smart station on Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja, NNPC Retail Executive Director, Retail Operations and Mobility, Shettima Baba-Kukawa, said the system allows customers to complete transactions on their phones and dispense the exact quantity of fuel purchased.
