The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended security agencies and other stakeholders involved in the successful rescue of 16 Corps Members abducted in Kogi State.
The Corps Members were abducted on August 26, 2026, while travelling from the Bayelsa State Orientation Camp to Abuja after completing their mandatory Orientation Course.
In a statement issued by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC praised the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Kogi State Vigilante groups and other personnel who participated in the search and rescue operation.
The Scheme described their efforts as professional and courageous, commending the coordination and commitment demonstrated throughout the operation.
The NYSC also acknowledged the support of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of Corps Members across the country.
According to the Scheme, the safety and welfare of Corps Members remain a priority, and it will continue to collaborate with government authorities and security agencies to strengthen protective measures.
The NYSC said lessons had been learnt from the incident and that relevant security and movement protocols would be reviewed to reduce the possibility of a recurrence.
The Scheme reiterated its commitment to ensuring that Corps Members can carry out their national service in a safe and secure environment.
