The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has disclosed that he underwent throat surgery days after a widely discussed interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan of Al Jazeera.
Bwala made the revelation during an appearance on News Central’s programme, 60 Minutes with Mr Kay, aired on Friday, where he also responded to reactions trailing the interview.
According to him, the surgery took place eight days after the exchange with Hasan, adding that he has since recovered.
“I’m back and strong,” he said, while making a light remark about the timing of the health issue.
The presidential aide also criticised a section of social media users he referred to as “Obidients,” accusing them of placing political loyalty above national interest.
He alleged that such groups are willing to push narratives that favour their preferred candidate regardless of broader implications.
Bwala further defended his performance during the interview, describing Hasan’s style as adversarial and aimed at challenging the government’s position.
He said the journalist sought to extract comments that could discredit the administration but did not succeed.
