The Allied People’s Movement has described the outcome of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election as a warning to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The party claimed that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory over the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, demonstrated that voters could defeat an established political structure when dissatisfied with its performance.
Adeleke, the candidate of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes, according to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Reacting to the outcome, the APM said the result was particularly significant because Osun is regarded as one of the states with strong political connections to President Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, the party argued that the election reflected what it described as declining support for the APC and an increasing appetite for political change.
“The triumph of the people over the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s governorship election in President Tinubu’s home state, Osun, not only foretastes the defeat that awaits President Tinubu in 2027 but also firmly establishes Makinde’s people-driven position that every political establishment seems unbeatable until the people decide otherwise,” the party said.
The APM also linked the Osun result to the political prospects of its proposed 2027 presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to the party, the election showed that political dominance can be overturned when voters decide to reject an incumbent party.
The party further claimed that reactions from voters towards APC leaders during the election pointed to growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party.
It said the Osun outcome should serve as a wake-up call to political establishments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
