The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority has impounded 20 cows in separate operations in Ibadan over alleged violations of the state’s open rearing and grazing regulations.
In the latest operation, conducted at dawn on Thursday, October 1, officials impounded 11 cows at Idi-Iroko, Moniya, in Ibadan.
The latest seizure followed an earlier operation in which nine cows were also impounded, bringing the total number of cattle taken into custody to 20.
The agency said the operations were part of ongoing enforcement of the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019.
It said the enforcement was also aimed at protecting residents, farmers and legitimate economic activities from the risks associated with open grazing and the unauthorised rearing of cattle in residential areas.
The authority warned cattle owners and handlers to comply with the state’s regulations, particularly restrictions against open grazing and residential rearing.
The latest enforcement comes amid continuing concerns over the movement of cattle through populated areas and its potential impact on residents, farmers and road users across the state.
