The Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate for Oyo Central, Engr. Ayobami Akinyode Olunloyo, has commended the Oyo State Police Command and local security partners following the rescue of 15-year-old Sumaila Muhammadu, who was reportedly abducted in Akinyele Local Government Area.
Olunloyo, in a statement reacting to the rescue, praised the security operatives involved but called for stronger intelligence gathering, improved community policing and sustained investment in public safety.
He condemned the abduction, saying no child or citizen should be subjected to the trauma of being forcibly taken away from their family and deprived of their freedom.
The PDP candidate also urged government to provide security agencies with adequate training, equipment, remuneration and institutional support to improve their ability to prevent and respond to criminal activities.
He said collaboration between the police, intelligence services and community leaders was essential to identifying security threats early and protecting residents.
Olunloyo further said that, under his proposed Ààbò Wa policy pillar, he would support legislative and institutional measures aimed at strengthening security coordination, operational capacity and community safety.
Describing security as a prerequisite for economic development, he argued that communities affected by fear and criminality could not fully realise their potential in education, innovation and commerce.
He said residents across the 11 local government areas of Oyo Central deserved to live without fear, adding that improved public lighting and efforts to address the conditions that encourage crime should complement law enforcement.
“Ultimately, security agencies exist to serve the people. And a government that puts people first must make their safety a fundamental priority,” he said.
