Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, says schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state are still within the Old Oyo National Park.
He disclosed this while giving updates on effort to rescue over 40 school children kidnapped by suspected bandits in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities noting that they remain the focus of ongoing security operations.
The governor said that it has been 27 days since the students and teachers were forcibly taken from their schools, leaving their families and communities in distress and uncertainty.
Makinde maintained that the state government and security agencies have not relented in their efforts, stressing that, every credible lead is being pursued and every lawful measure is being deployed to secure the safe release of the abductees.
The governor urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the state’s toll-free Citizens Enquiry Number.
He also cautioned against the circulation of unverified information regarding the abduction, warning that misinformation can compromise ongoing rescue efforts and hinder security operations.
