The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected dealers in human parts following months of intelligence gathering, surveillance and close monitoring of their activities in different parts of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed in a statement that operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit carried out an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of the suspects at their hideouts in the Iseyin and Saki areas of the state.
According to the police, searches conducted at the suspects’ hideouts led to the recovery of several suspected human parts, including a suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and assorted charms. The recovered exhibits have been secured for forensic examination and further investigation.
Ayanlade said the suspects allegedly confessed to varying degrees of involvement in the trade of human parts for ritual purposes and are assisting investigators in efforts to determine the source, procurement and intended use of the recovered items. He added that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the operatives for the intelligence-driven operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and protecting the sanctity of human life.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and detecting criminal activities across the state.
