The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious in the June 20 governorship election, promising to usher in what he described as a new era of development and prosperity for the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Press Secretary of the Wole Oluyede Campaign Organisation, Idowu Adelusi, the party called on residents to reject vote-buying and other forms of inducement allegedly being employed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the poll.
The campaign organisation urged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers on election day and support the PDP candidate, insisting that the election presents an opportunity for Ekiti people to bring an end to what it described as a government that has failed to meet the aspirations of the people.
According to the statement, the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji has not delivered commensurate development despite increased allocations from the Federal Government. It alleged that the government had resorted to last-minute empowerment programmes and payments as the election draws nearer.
The campaign team also faulted comments made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the inauguration of the Ado Ekiti flyover on Tuesday, where he praised Governor Oyebanji’s performance and endorsed his re-election bid.
Adelusi questioned why the flyover project took nearly four years to complete and argued that the APC administration had delivered only a limited number of visible projects despite the resources available to it. He maintained that many residents had yet to feel the impact of the government’s policies and programmes.
Reaffirming confidence in the PDP’s chances, the campaign organisation said Dr. Oluyede remained the candidate capable of restoring hope and delivering meaningful development, adding that his victory would herald a fresh lease of life for the people of Ekiti State.
