The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected allegations of financial misconduct levelled against Governor Seyi Makinde, describing them as unfounded and misleading.
The party’s reaction follows a publication attributed to a group identified as the Save Oyo Movement (SOM), which alleged that the governor expended billions of naira in public funds on political activities.
In a statement issued by the PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Micheal Ogunsina, the party said the claims lack credible evidence and should be disregarded.
Ogunsina noted that the figures being circulated are speculative and unsupported by verifiable documentation, adding that no budgetary references, procurement records, or audit trails have been provided to substantiate the allegations.
He maintained that public finance management in Oyo State operates within established legal and institutional frameworks, including appropriation laws, due process mechanisms, and oversight by relevant authorities, stressing that expenditures are neither arbitrary nor concealed.
The statement further criticised attempts to link funds allocated for specific interventions to unrelated political activities, describing such narratives as misleading and insensitive, particularly when they involve issues tied to public welfare.
According to the party, the Makinde administration has consistently prioritised transparency, accountability, and responsible governance, noting that progress recorded in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, education, healthcare, and security are visible and verifiable indicators of prudent resource management.
While acknowledging the right of citizens and groups to demand accountability, the PDP cautioned that such demands must be grounded in facts and pursued through appropriate channels, warning that unsubstantiated allegations in the media undermine constructive public discourse.
The party urged the public to rely on credible sources of information and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to openness, lawful governance, and sustained development.
