In a show of political strength and grassroots mobilisation, thousands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters across Ekiti State thronged Ikole-Ekiti on Tuesday to witness the formal declaration of Peter Obafemi’s ambition to contest the 2026 gubernatorial election.
Obafemi, a renowned business mogul and administrator, used the occasion which also marked his birthday to announce his readiness to vie for the PDP ticket and, ultimately, challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the general election.
Radiating confidence, the aspirant described his entry into the race as a mission to rescue Ekiti from what he called the “claws of the APC,” vowing to contest and win the party primaries regardless of any opposition or political alliances.
“Let it be heard across every village, every town, and every city in Ekiti State: I, Obafemi, am prepared to face any contender, any alliance, any political force, be it the ruling APC or a coalition of interests under it,” he declared.
Addressing a passionate crowd, Obafemi urged party members from all 16 local government areas to unite behind his vision, promising to deliver qualitative, people-oriented leadership that would restore Ekiti’s pride and prosperity.
“I will not be moved by the noise of the moment, nor shaken by the storm of politics. We stand not on propaganda, but on purpose. Though the gates may tremble, we carry courage in our chest. We care not just about today—we care about change,” he said.
The aspirant stressed that the PDP has always been the preferred party in Ekiti and should not be deterred by internal crises or external political pressures.
“Not every man who walks before a crowd is a leader. But I stand before you today as a leader who walks with the people, who lifts the people, and who will build something greater than politics, a true homecoming of purpose,” he added.
Obafemi cited his over three decades of experience in public service, private enterprise, and grassroots engagement as the foundation for his leadership drive.
