The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to due process, institutional discipline and the rule of law amid the controversy involving social media influencer Martins Otse and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Moshood Jimoh.
In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, said the criminal matter referenced in recent public comments by VeryDarkMan had already been investigated and was before a court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The police maintained that, with the matter now before a court of competent jurisdiction, its determination rests solely with the judiciary.
“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved,” the statement said.
The Force also disclosed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department had invited AIG Jimoh for questioning over the allegations made against him.
According to the statement, the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja separately issued a formal invitation to VeryDarkMan on July 30, 2026, requesting that he appear before investigators to provide evidence in support of the allegations he made publicly.
The police said the parallel actions underscore the Force’s commitment to conducting impartial investigations into all credible allegations of misconduct, regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant.
The statement added that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring accountability within its ranks while allowing the judicial process to determine the outcome of matters already before the courts.
