President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, promoting her from her previous role as Minister of State in the same ministry.
This follows the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down from the position to pursue his governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
As part of the reshuffle, the President also nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, a role in which he was involved in shaping Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu brings significant diplomatic experience to her new position, having previously served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain and later to Italy before her initial appointment into the Federal Executive Council in 2023.
She is also widely known as the widow of the late Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political history.
