Paris Saint-Germain have strengthened their bid for a third consecutive European title after delivering a commanding 4-2 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday. Another title now seems within reach despite a slow start to their Ligue one season.
The French champions dominated large stretches of the encounter, racing into a 3-0 half-time lead before withstanding a second-half fightback from the Premier League side and adding another goal to seal an emphatic win.
The performance has further fuelled talk of PSG building a lasting dynasty in European football under manager Luis Enrique.
PSG claimed their first Champions League title in 2025 after thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. They then retained the trophy last season, edging Arsenal on penalties, and are now targeting a third successive triumph.
Achieving that feat would place them among a select group of clubs to have won Europe’s premier club competition three times in a row since its introduction in 1955. Only one team has managed the feat in the Champions League era.
Former England striker Chris Sutton praised PSG’s display during half-time commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live, describing the French side as operating at an exceptional level.
He said PSG had overwhelmed City, leaving Pep Guardiola’s team struggling to maintain possession and put together passes.
The victory showcased the attacking quality and control that have become central to PSG’s European campaign, while raising questions about whether any rival can stop them from extending their reign.
