The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, is set to inaugurate an ad hoc committee to investigate the controversial inclusion of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) in the 2026 Appropriation Act, despite claims that the agency was never legally established.
The inauguration and public hearing are scheduled to take place at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, in accordance with Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower the National Assembly to investigate the administration of public institutions and the management of public funds.
The committee is chaired by the member representing Kanke/Kanam/Pankshin Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Yusuf Gagdi, and was constituted two weeks ago following a resolution adopted by the House during plenary presided over by Speaker Abbas.
The investigation comes amid renewed controversy over the omission of the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, from the list of witnesses invited to appear before the panel, a move that has drawn criticism from some stakeholders.
The probe is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the inclusion of the unestablished council in the 2026 budget and determine whether due process was followed in the appropriation process.
The House committee is also expected to make recommendations aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and oversight in Nigeria’s budgeting system.
