Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents and visitors of strengthened security as the state prepares for increased activities, including the visit of President Bola Tinubu and the expected influx of visitors during the end-of-year period.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday during a security council meeting with heads of security agencies at the State House, Marina, where he received briefings on security operations and plans to enhance safety across the state.
The meeting was disclosed in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, titled, “Sanwo-Olu Holds Security Council Meeting.”
According to Omotoso, the governor was briefed on security activities and measures being put in place ahead of the Yuletide. Sanwo-Olu said the state government would continue to take steps to prevent criminal activities and protect residents and visitors.
The governor said, “We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state.”
Omotoso said Lagos would host President Bola Tinubu from Tuesday, while several activities were being planned for the festive period, with increased movement expected across the state. He added that religious and cultural events would also take place in different parts of Lagos.
The Commissioner further noted that political activities were gaining momentum in the state following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s announcement of the commencement of campaigns.
Those at the meeting included the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also present were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Hundeyin; and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro. The meeting comes as Lagos prepares for heightened movement and activities associated with the festive season, as well as political, religious and cultural engagements across the state.
