The Somolu Local Government has commenced the reconstruction of Ovie-Nhmada Road in Ward C, Ijebutedo, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and road connectivity across the community.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Wasiu Adeyemi Badaru, the project, being executed through the Works and Infrastructure Department under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Lateef Ashimi, commenced with the renewal of drainage infrastructure to address environmental challenges in the area.
Speaking on the project, the Supervisor, Kabir Raji, said the drainage works are designed to tackle flooding and other environmental concerns while improving connectivity between Albert Street and Apata Street.
He said the intervention forms part of the council’s broader infrastructure drive aimed at improving living conditions and easing movement for residents.
Engineer Babafemi Osifala said the Ashimi-led administration had identified several dilapidated roads across the local government area that require urgent attention.
According to him, the roads have been earmarked for rehabilitation to provide alternative routes for motorists, improve accessibility and support commercial activities within the affected areas.
He added that the administration remains committed to addressing critical infrastructure challenges in the council.
Chairman Ashimi also disclosed that Phase 1 of the Akeju Road project is expected to be completed in the coming days.
The completion, he said, would complement other roads already delivered in the area and provide residents with easier and more convenient access.
The improved road network is also expected to support the activities of local traders and printers while creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
