President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday met behind closed doors with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as efforts intensify to resolve the controversy surrounding the party’s recently released Presidential Campaign Council list.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was part of a series of consultations involving President Tinubu, APC governors and other senior party leaders following the backlash that greeted the list released on August 23, 2026.
The APC governors arrived at the President’s office shortly before 4pm after attending a separate session of the National Economic Council chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The latest meeting is understood to be part of ongoing efforts to review and possibly rework the composition of the Presidential Campaign Council.
The controversy erupted after several party members and stakeholders raised objections to the inclusion of some party chieftains, particularly individuals facing corruption-related allegations.
There were also complaints within the party that some important groups and stakeholders were not adequately consulted before the list was drawn up.
The consultations reportedly began on Wednesday, with party leaders holding an extended meeting that lasted from about 4pm until 11pm.
However, the meeting ended without a final resolution, prompting further discussions on Thursday.
The administration and party leadership are believed to be keen on resolving the disagreement before it affects preparations for the forthcoming political activities.
