President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the move is aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector.

According to the statement, Tegbe’s appointment is expected to boost efforts to improve grid stability, deepen sectoral reforms, and attract sustainable investments in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The development follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from the role to pursue elective office ahead of upcoming elections.

Tegbe, a native of Oyo State, brings over three decades of experience in fiscal policy, economic reform, and advisory services across both the public and private sectors.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives focused on governance, institutional transformation, and economic policy reforms.

Until his nomination, he was the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinated development efforts and strengthened economic ties between Nigeria and China.

The nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation, as the federal government seeks to reposition the power sector amid persistent challenges in electricity generation and distribution.
