President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to screen and confirm Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The request was conveyed in a letter read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who subsequently referred it to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.
In a separate communication, the President also sought Senate confirmation for the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The request was referred to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, with a mandate to report within one week.
Similarly, Tinubu nominated Benedict Umeno for reappointment as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau, representing the South-East.
The nomination was referred to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption, also expected to report within one week.
Darma, a Mechanical Engineering graduate of Bayero University, Kano, was the deputy governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in 2023 before being sacked by the party for endorsing an opposing candidate in the election.
Yuguda is a former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission and has over three decades of experience at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
