Former Governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, over what he described as a lack of tangible development and political empowerment during his 24 years in top government positions.
Wike spoke during an interactive session with leaders and stakeholders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He challenged the people of Evo Kingdom to identify any significant project or development Amaechi attracted to the area after serving eight years as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, eight years as governor and eight years as a minister.
Wike said, “Someone was Speaker of the House of Assembly for eight years, Governor for eight years, and Minister for eight years—that is 24 years in top leadership positions! What can anybody point to that he attracted to Evo Kingdom or Rivers State in all those 24 years? Nothing! Not one single thing!”
The FCT Minister also accused some political leaders of refusing to empower others or create opportunities for new leaders to emerge after attaining political positions.
According to him, leadership should be about developing people and creating a legacy that will continue after a leader leaves office.
Wike said he had no further personal political ambitions, noting that he had served as governor and minister and could no longer seek some of the offices he previously occupied.

He also recalled his role in restructuring the traditional institution in Rivers State to give Evo Kingdom representation on the state Council of Traditional Rulers.
Wike urged the people to place their trust in God, saying political leaders could disappoint, but God would ultimately correct wrongs.
The session was attended by traditional and political leaders from Evo Kingdom, including Eze Temple Ejekwu and Elder Peter Chinwo, President of the Evo Assembly.
