The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is absent from the final list of governorship candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the January 16, 2027, election in Kebbi State.
The development comes amid internal divisions within the party and defections by prominent members ahead of the polls.
Governor Nasir Idris is listed as the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, is representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The PDP has been grappling with disagreements among its stakeholders over the state’s political direction, including conflicting positions on Idris’s second-term bid.
In August, a group of PDP stakeholders endorsed the governor’s re-election, but the party’s state chairman, Usman Bello Suru, rejected the move, insisting that it did not reflect the party’s official position.
Meanwhile, the ADC has stepped up its preparations for the election, inaugurating more than 600 campaign council members as it seeks to challenge the APC in the state.
