It’s Debate Day in Lagos!
Today, December 13, the intellectual energy of Lagos converges at Falana Chambers, 25 Adekunle Fajuyi Way in Ikeja GRA, as the highly anticipated Dare2Debate competition kicks off its maiden edition. Four top schools will take to the rostrum in a battle of wits, rhetoric, and compelling argumentation, vying not only for prestige but for significant prizes: N300,000 for the first-place team, N200,000 for second, and N100,000 for third, with additional consolation awards up for grabs.
Organized by HACmedia under its “Think, Speak, and Lead” initiative, the event promises to be more than a contest, it’s a showcase of Lagos’s next generation of leaders and thinkers.
“Winning a debate requires more than just having the right information,” says Davies Ikpoyi, lead organizer of Dare2Debate. “It demands strategy, persuasion, and a deep understanding of the topic at hand.”
Ensuring that every argument is finely weighed is a distinguished panel of judges:- Adebowale Banzi, a seasoned communication professional from Fidelity Bank;- Dotun Ojon, former Ondo State Governorship Candidate for the YPP and a respected leadership expert;- Oludolapo Adewale, a seasoned broadcast professional. Together, they will assess clarity, coherence, delivery, and the strategic depth of each team’s positions.
With topics poised to challenge perspectives and stir thoughtful discourse, today’s event spotlights a powerful message: debating is for everyone. It’s a skill that sharpens the mind, empowers voice, and builds the confidence to lead.
The venue doors are open. The city is listening. Let the debate begin.
