A dispatch rider was killed instantly on Monday after a collision with a fuel tanker at Motorways, near the Alapere Estate area.
The crash, involving an empty NIPCO tanker and an AOC dispatch motorcycle, sparked a confrontation as a group of riders attempted to attack the truck driver who was saved by Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
According to Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, initial reports suggest the tanker driver was speeding toward the Alapere axis when he struck the motorcyclist who died at the scene.
Subsequently, LASTMA personnel handed the injured driver to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for medical treatment while Officers from the Alausa Police Station were later deployed to disperse the gathering and secure the area.
General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, offered condolences to the victim’s family and warned motorists that excessive speed remains the primary cause of road deaths in the state.
“This accident demonstrates the need for vigilance,” Bakare-Oki said. “Every road user has a responsibility to act prudently and protect lives.”
