President Bola Tinubu has authorised the establishment of a new Nigeria Police Academy campus in Erinja, Ogun State, supported by a N15 billion take-off grant.

The new facility, located in the Yewa South Local Government Area, marks the first major expansion of the academy since the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act of 2021 which mandates the decentralisation of the institution’s primary base in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple regional campuses.

Funding for the project will be drawn from the 2026 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) allocation. The N15 billion intervention is earmarked for essential infrastructure, including academic buildings, student hostels, and specialised security training assets.

According to Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the decision followed a consultative meeting between the Minister of Police Affairs and the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa. Officials from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Inspector-General of Police also participated in the site selection process.

Erinja was chosen after the committee evaluated student capacity, funding sustainability, and the long-term requirements of the Nigeria Police Force as it scales up recruitment efforts.

President Tinubu stated that the expansion is intended to modernise policing education and improve national security frameworks.
