The African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has dismissed a viral video alleging that its planned national convention in Abuja collapsed due to poor turnout.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed an empty Velodrome at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, claiming it was the venue of a convention that failed to attract delegates or party officials.
The footage sparked speculation about internal divisions within the party and raised fresh concerns over the legitimacy of competing leadership factions that have continued to trouble the ADC.
However, in a swift response, the Gombe-led faction described the video as fabricated and part of a deliberate propaganda campaign aimed at discrediting its leadership.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Chief of Staff to the faction’s National Chairman, Bala Kumo, insisted that no such elective convention was ever announced or approved by the leadership.
He argued that the claims were misleading and orchestrated by political opponents seeking to deepen confusion within the party.
The controversy comes as the Supreme Court of Nigeria hears a case involving the Gombe-led faction and another group aligned with David Mark.
