The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has reaffirmed its exclusive mandate as the only agency legally responsible for the regulation and management of parking operations across Lagos State.
The General Manager of LASPA, Adebisi Adelabu, made this known while reacting to what she described as a misleading communication allegedly issued by a local government official claiming jurisdiction over parking management.
She said the document, which was reportedly not issued on official letterhead, is invalid and misrepresents the legal framework governing parking operations in the state.
Adelabu stressed that LASPA remains the only body empowered by law to regulate parking activities across Lagos, in line with legislation passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly and supported by all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
She urged car park operators and members of the public to disregard any unauthorised directives, warning that attempts to intimidate or mislead licensed operators would not be tolerated.
According to her, any claims that local government authorities retain control over parking management are incorrect and constitute a breach of existing state laws.
She further explained that all parking operations and agreements must be carried out strictly under LASPA’s regulatory framework, in partnership with certified and registered operators.
Adelabu also described the actions of the alleged council parking official as unlawful interference in a system designed to improve order, traffic flow, and public convenience.
She concluded by warning that LASPA would not hesitate to take legal action against any individual or group attempting to undermine its statutory authority.
