The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has distanced itself from a political gathering held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The faction accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of using a purported alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to advance his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections
Addressing journalists in Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, insisted that the party had no connection with the Ibadan meeting being promoted as a PDP/APM alliance event.
“We have called this briefing to address the misleading narratives and deliberate falsehood being circulated concerning the social gathering scheduled to hold today in Ibadan under the guise of an alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement,” Jungudo stated.
He stressed that the PDP had not entered into any alliance, coalition or political arrangement with the APM or any other political party regarding the gathering.
“Any person or group claiming to be acting on behalf of the PDP in connection with this event is doing so without the knowledge, approval, consent, or authority of the party,” he added.
Jungudo further claimed that the Ibadan gathering exposed what he described as Governor Makinde’s true political intentions.
According to him, “Just like Governor Bala Mohammed who earlier moved to the APM, Nigerians can now clearly see that today’s gathering in Ibadan is simply a public celebration of Governor Makinde’s movement to the APM and nothing more. His attempts to destroy the PDP have finally been exposed and his agenda has fallen flat.”
The PDP spokesman also accused Makinde and his allies of trying to create a false impression of political relevance and widespread support.
Despite the deepening internal crisis, Jungudo maintained that the PDP leadership at Wadata Plaza remained in charge of the party’s affairs, noting that governorship and presidential screening exercises were ongoing at Legacy House in Maitama, Abuja.
He said the screening process demonstrated the party’s continued organisational control and readiness ahead of future elections.
