The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba Land, Gani Adams, has expressed frustration over worsening insecurity in the South-West, revealing that repeated efforts to engage governors in the region on collaborative security measures received no response.

Speaking on the growing security challenges affecting communities across the region, Adams said many people continue to blame him because of his traditional title, despite what he described as limited constitutional powers to directly tackle insecurity.

“People continue to blame me, saying, ‘You are the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba Land and you refused to do something on the issue of insecurity affecting us,’” he said.

The Yoruba leader disclosed that he had written to South-West governors, urging stronger cooperation and a unified regional approach to combating insecurity, but claimed his appeals were ignored.

“I have written to South West governors that there is a need for collaboration on the issue of security; all hands must be on deck to address this ugly situation, but for the past two years, they did not reply me,” Adams stated.

Oyo School Abduction: The Southwest must prepare for this issue of insecurity, says Gani Adams, Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba Land.

We have had a series of kidnappings in different states, but we have not witnessed mass kidnappings in Yoruba land, he added.

He stressed that insecurity has become a major concern for residents across the region, calling for urgent action from political leaders, traditional institutions, community stakeholders, and security agencies.

Adams further emphasized that addressing insecurity requires collective responsibility and coordinated strategies rather than isolated efforts.

His comments come amid increasing concerns over kidnappings, armed attacks, and other criminal activities reported in parts of the South-West in recent years.
