Two defendants, Ibrahim Kashua and Kareem Sodiq, have been convicted and sentenced to three months imprisonment by a Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos State, for unlawful dumping of refuse.

The commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab said the duo were arraigned on 18 May 2026 on a charge relating to indiscriminate waste disposal, an offence under Lagos State environmental sanitation laws.

According to court proceedings, both defendants pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to them.

Following their guilty plea, the magistrate convicted and sentenced them to three months imprisonment each.

The court ruled that the sentence should serve as a deterrent to others who engage in improper waste disposal within the state, particularly in densely populated areas such as Oshodi.

Wahab noted that environmental enforcement in Lagos has intensified in recent years as authorities continue efforts to curb flooding, blocked drainage systems, and public health risks linked to indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
