Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has signed Executive Order 001 of 2026 aimed at regulating associations, groups and organisations involved in security and allied services across the state.
The measure is expected to help establish a clear legal and operational framework for groups engaged in security-related activities, including vigilante and community-based security outfits.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Ibadan on Wednesday, Makinde explained that the decision became necessary in response to growing security challenges and the increasing activities of groups operating without proper coordination.
According to him, the order seeks to strengthen peace, public order and adherence to the rule of law within the state.
Makinde stated that while security remains a shared responsibility between government and citizens, it is important for all organisations providing security and related services to function within an organised system.
He explained that the executive order would ensure that all affected groups are properly registered, documented and monitored by the state government.
The governor added that improved regulation would enhance coordination among security stakeholders and strengthen efforts to address security concerns in communities across Oyo State.
