President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the new zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ado Ekiti, praising the agency for its achievements in the fight against corruption and financial crimes.
The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, described the EFCC as a critical institution in Nigeria’s economic and national security framework.
The newly commissioned state-of-the-art facility will serve Ondo and Ekiti states, strengthening the Commission’s operations in the South-West region.
Tinubu commended the EFCC for its recent successes in prosecuting high-profile corruption cases, noting that the convictions of a former minister and a former managing director of a national investment bank demonstrated the government’s commitment to accountability.
“The EFCC’s recent prosecution of several high-profile corruption cases, including the conviction of a former minister and a former managing director of a national investment bank, sends a clear message that there are no hiding places for the corrupt,” the President said.

He also highlighted the Commission’s efforts in combating cybercrime and financial fraud, citing the dismantling of a foreign-controlled cryptocurrency syndicate in Lagos, which led to the conviction of 192 foreign nationals in a single operation.
According to Tinubu, the EFCC has also played a key role in exposing fraudulent Ponzi schemes and supporting reforms that contributed to Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, thereby improving the country’s investment climate.
The President further stated that the agency’s aggressive asset recovery efforts have helped provide resources for critical government programmes, including the Students’ Loan Scheme and CreditCorp initiatives.
Speaking at the event, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, said the state government provided the land for the EFCC zonal office as part of its commitment to good governance, transparency, and support for the anti-corruption campaign of the Federal Government.
Oyebanji noted that the project reflects strong intergovernmental cooperation and reinforces the state’s resolve to contribute to the fight against corruption and financial crimes.
