The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the temporary closure of Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area to facilitate ongoing rehabilitation works on the facility.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
According to the statement, the Federal Ministry of Works will undertake the installation of heavy steel bridge beams as part of the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of the bridge.
The government said the operation would necessitate the temporary closure of the bridge during specific periods to ensure the safety of road users and construction personnel.
“The entire section of Iddo Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement during the periods stated above to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams on the bridge.”
The closure is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
To minimize traffic disruptions, the state government has provided alternative routes for motorists.
Motorists travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain have been advised to use Funsho Williams Avenue to continue their journeys.
Similarly, motorists travelling from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain are advised to descend the ramp to access Iddo-Onigbe, connect through Oyingbo, and continue via Murtala Muhammed Way.
For motorists travelling from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina, the government advised the use of Eko Bridge by connecting through Apapa Road and continuing via Murtala Muhammed Way, Iddo-Onigbe, and Carter Bridge.
The state government appealed to commuters and motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials who will be deployed to manage vehicular movement during the temporary closure.
“Motorists are implored to be patient and cooperate with the traffic management officials during the temporary closure.”
The government noted that the exercise forms part of broader traffic management measures aimed at supporting the ongoing bridge rehabilitation project being executed by the Federal Ministry of Works.
Residents and road users have also been urged to plan their trips accordingly and comply with traffic directives to ensure smooth movement during the period.
