The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has cleared heaps of illegally dumped waste from the median of the Egbeda–Idimu Road and the Lawanson corridor in Surulere as part of ongoing efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness across the state.

The cleanup operation was carried out by the LAWMA Intervention Team, which evacuated large volumes of refuse that had accumulated along the affected corridors.

Following the exercise, the commissioner for enviroment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab reiterated warning to residents, traders, and motorists against the unlawful disposal of waste on road medians, drainage channels, and other unauthorized locations.

According to Wahab, indiscriminate waste dumping contributes to environmental degradation, obstructs drainage systems, and poses serious public health risks to residents.

He stressed that road medians are not designated waste disposal points and urged members of the public to adopt proper waste management practices in line with existing environmental regulations.

The commissioner also advised residents to patronize only approved waste collection service providers for the disposal of household and commercial waste, noting that the agency remains committed to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment across Lagos State.

He warned that individuals and businesses found violating environmental sanitation laws would be sanctioned in accordance with the extant laws of Lagos State.

Wahab further called on residents to support government efforts by maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and reporting cases of illegal waste dumping to the appropriate authorities.
