The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has appointed Professor Olamakinde Olapegba as the institution’s 14th Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Olapegba, an indigene of Igboora in Oyo State, will lead Nigeria’s premier university, which was established 78 years ago.
Born on January 26, 1970, he obtained all his academic qualifications from the University of Ibadan, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1997, a Master’s degree in 1999, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Psychology in 2008.
A Professor of Applied Social Psychology, Olapegba has held several key administrative positions within the university. Before his appointment, he served as the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), where he played a significant role in the university’s management.
He is also a Fellow of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (FSPSP) and the Nigerian Psychological Association (FNPA), reflecting his contributions to psychology and peace studies.
Olapegba succeeds the outgoing Vice-Chancellor and assumes responsibility for steering the institution’s academic and administrative affairs.
