The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has expressed confidence ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, declaring that its candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, enjoys widespread support among voters across the state.
Speaking during an interview on Adamimogo FM Lagos, the spokesperson to the PDP candidate, Hon. Gani Salau, said the party remains optimistic about its chances at the polls, insisting that many residents are seeking a new direction for the state.
According to Salau, Oluyede has emerged as one of the most prominent figures in the governorship race and continues to attract significant public attention ahead of the election.
He argued that growing dissatisfaction with the performance of the current administration has increased support for the PDP candidate among the electorate.
Salau also dismissed concerns that the legal dispute involving the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could negatively affect voter turnout or support for Oluyede.
According to him, the controversy surrounding Oluyede’s initial exclusion from the ballot despite a court ruling in his favour generated public sympathy and strengthened support for his candidacy.
The PDP spokesman maintained that many voters viewed the development as unfair, adding that it further energized the party’s supporters ahead of the election.
Responding to suggestions that the achievements of previous governors and the loyalty of some voters to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could influence the outcome of the poll, Salau insisted that the desire for change remains strong among residents.
He expressed confidence that voters would make their decisions based on current realities and their expectations for the future of the state.
The Ekiti governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, with political parties making final efforts to mobilize supporters and persuade undecided voters before the polls.
As campaigning winds down, both the PDP and APC have continued to project confidence while urging residents to participate peacefully in the democratic process.
